6 Steps to a successful Feedback Dialogue

Having regular feedback sessions, at least twice a quarter, will help you to

  1. Develop yourself and your colleagues professionally
  2. Improve the engagement levels in your team
  3. Strengthen your personal and professional relationship

Step-by-step to your successful feedback dialogue

Step 1: Learn
Get an understanding of how to give and receive feedback. It is important for feedback to be constructive and relevant to the receiver. Follow the tips for giving and receiving feedback.

Step 2:Prepare
Schedule a meeting with your manager or employee and use the feedback tips for giving and receiving feedback to prepare some feedback that you would like to share.

Step 3: Initiate
Get in contact with your manager or employee and have your feedback dialogue. A tip: End your dialogue on a positive note and ask your partner how he/she liked the session.

Step 4: Reflect
Reflect on the process and the feedback you received

Step 5: Practice makes perfect
Use/schedule a jour fixe for another Feedback Dialogue with your manager/employee. A tip: Start with short sessions and build gradually from there.

Step 6: Encourage others to give and receive feedback
Share your experience with your peers and learn from each other.

In general it is very important to note, that feedback should not only happen downward, but also upward. Because in the end, feedback is beneficial for everyone!

Feedback goes in both directions: It will both deepen your knowledge of the other person and yourself. Hence, regular and honest feedback will build trust as well as lead to better working results.
